Keith began his career in criminal justice with the Waco Police Department in 1985. He has served in every division of the department, including Patrol, SWAT, Special Investigations, Drug Enforcement, and K9, where he was promoted to sergeant. In 2000, he established the department’s first Forensics Unit and led the unit for more than 17 years. In 2017, he was appointed to the Professional Standards Office, where he served until 2022, when he was selected by the Chief of Police to be her Chief of Staff.

 Sgt. Vaughan has received extensive forensic and law enforcement training nationwide and is certified in district courts as an expert in Crime Scene and Firearm Investigations, as well as Bloodstain Pattern Analysis. 

With over two decades of teaching experience, he has instructed forensic and criminal justice courses for Baylor University, McLennan Community College, and the Heart of Texas and Central Texas Councils of Governments. He also regularly speaks to civic groups throughout McLennan County.
