Baylor Students Talk with Texas State Legislators
Five groups, five issues, and forty meetings! Baylor students enrolled in PSC 2306: Texas Civic Engagement & Politics in Action spent Thursday, April 17th talking with Texas state legislators about state-level policy problems and potential solutions. The course, as part of the Engaged Learning Core, offered students the opportunity to develop a sense of responsibility to address complex social and political challenges. Students learned about the Texas legislative process and what research says about effective advocacy. In small groups, students identified a social problem in Texas they wanted to learn more about and researched potential solutions. Students used this research to craft and implement an engagement plan where they met with Texas state legislators and legislative staffers to discuss currently proposed legislation that could address these complex problems.
